Remort, Retirement and Finishment

This Policy is in effect for characters that Remort, Retire or Finish as of August 2018.

Remort

This is an option for Players of Fantasy Alive to change aspects of their character to try out different styles of play. This option is available to players once for free and each additional time for a $30 Logistics fee until the Character’s SP Total exceeds the Players’ SP Cap. After passing the SP Cap, Remorting your character is no longer an option. Remorting follows these rules:

    • The character keeps all SP/XP accumulated to the point of Remorting.
    • All coin and tags held by character must be turned into Log.
    • OC may be converted to Coin up to the set OC cap.
    • New character begins with a starting coin amount of 300 cp (plus any OC converted to Coin). This can be used to purchase items from the list in our In Game Item shop here.
    • All skills may be completely changed up to the character’s current SP Total
    • Race may be changed
    • If race is changed, character must be an entirely different person with no memories or relations built previously. Otherwise, the Player can decide whether the new Character is entirely new or just the previous Character with some different aspects.
    • OC may be converted to XP up to the Player’s OC cap.
    • OC may not be converted for Items or Services.
    • The character gives up any ability to use their downtime for anything during the Log period of the Remort.
    • The player may not submit any Between Game Actions, Role-Play on the Boards, or any other use of their previous Character or Remorted Character during the Log period of the Remort.
    • The previous character may be used by Plot at their discretion. Plot may request the Player to Cast as the character during these times, but the Player is not required to do so.

For example…

Gerald the Brave currently has these stats:

  • Human
  • Skills: 1-handed Sword, Counter Attack <1h Sword>, Parry <1h Sword>, Physical Prowess, Shield, Wear Light Armour, Wear Heavy Armour, Weapon Mastert <1h Sword> x3
  • 55 total SP
  • Tags for: Longsword, Shield, 10 Locations of Chain Armour.
  • 650cp in coin.
  • 45 OC

The Player of “Gerald the Brave” decides to Remort the character into “Hagar the Wise.” The new character is worked out like this…

  • Name changed to “Hagar the Wise”
  • Race changed from Human to Elf
  • The Player decided to convert some of their OC into SP (15 OC = 15 XP, Conversion ratio is 15XP:1SP = 1 SP)
  • 56 total SP
  • Skills changed to: Read and Write, Read Magic, Magery, Catalyst, Concentration, Magical Energy x18.
  • Previous tags handed into Log: Longsword, Shield, 10 Locations of Chain Armour.
  • Previous Coin handed into Log: 650cp
  • The Player decided to convert the remaining OC into Coin (30 OC = 300cp)
  • Hagar starts with 300cp + Coin from OC conversion (300cp) = 600cp.
  • Hagar selects to start with a Fire Bolt Spell (575cp)
  • Remaining starting money is given in Coin: 25cp.
  • All downtime is forfeit.
  • The Player does not send in any Between Games Action or participate in any RP as “Gerald” or “Hagar.”
  • The next event, the Player submits all this information through the Character Creator Form on the website and on the Event Registration form.

Retirement

There comes a time when a character decides to leave the life of adventure. Retirement in Fantasy Alive is when a Player decides that they no longer wish to play their current Character and instead try out something brand new. This can be done any time after a Character SP Total exceeds the Player’s SP Cap.

A possible method of Character Retirement is through a final quest. A Retirement Quest is something that is designed to be the end of the character’s story, a culmination of all of their adventures into one final chapter. Characters eligible for Retirement may request from Plot a Retirement Quest which may be provided should these conditions are met:

  • The Quest must be no longer than 10 events long.
  • The Quest must end with the Character being Retired as per the method described below.
  • Plot will develop the Quest in conjunction with the Player’s wishes but Plot, Plot Manager and Owners have the final say in how the Quest plays out.

To Retire a Character, the steps below are followed:

    • The new Character made must be an entirely different person with no memories or relations built previously.
    • Their new character is set at SP equal to their SP Cap
    • All additional SP is converted to OC at a rate of 1 SP = 10 OC
    • Any XP remaining on the old character is put into Banked XP to be used freely.
    • All coin and tags held by character must be turned into Log.
      • Items and coin may be given to other characters, but at the discretion of Owners and Head of Plot.
    • OC may be converted to Coin with no limit.
    • OC may not be converted for Items or Services.
    • New character begins with a starting coin amount of 300 cp (plus any OC converted to Coin). This can be used to purchase items from the In Game Item shop here.
    • Race, Skills Backstory and any other aspects of the Character may be selected normally.
    • OC may not be converted to XP for this Log period.
    • The character gives up any ability to use their downtime for anything during the Log period of the Remort.
    • The player may not submit any Between Game Actions, Role-Play on the Boards, or any other use of their previous Character or Remorted Character during the Log period of the Remort.
    • The Retired character may be used by Plot at their and the Player’s discretion. Plot may request the Player to Cast as the character during these times, but the Player is not required to do so.

For example…

Gerald the Super Brave currently has these stats:

  • Human
  • Skills: 1-handed Sword, Counter Attack <1h Sword>, Parry <1h Sword> x3, Physical Prowess, Shield, Wear Light Armour, Wear Heavy Armour, Weapon Mastert <1h Sword> x3, Dodge x5
  • 120 total SP
  • Tags for: MC Longsword, MC Shield, 20 Locations of Chain Armour.
  • 3500cp in coin.
  • 200 OC
  • 80 SP Cap

The Player of “Gerald the Super Brave” decides to Retire the character and make a new one “Hagar the Extra Wise.” The new character is worked out like this…

  • Gerald is archived by Log.
  • Gerald has 40 SP over his SP Cap (120 SP total – 80 SP Cap = 40 SP). This is converted to 400 OC (1SP = 10 OC). This is added to the Player’s current 200 OC for a total of 600 OC.
  • Previous tags handed into Log: MC Longsword, MC Shield, 20 Locations of Chain Armour.
  • Previous Coin handed into Log: 3500cp
  • The Player requests to give his MC Longsword to another character because “It was just a loaner and my character would want to give it back.” The request is approved and the MC Longsword tag is delivered to the other Player/Character in an appropriate method.
  • The Player submits the Character Creation form with these details:
    • Name: “Hagar the Extra Wise”
    • Race: Elf
    • The Player cannot convert OC to XP so skips that part of the Form.
    • 80 total SP
    • Skills input into Form: Read and Write, Read Magic, Magery, Catalyst x3, Concentration x3, Magical Energy x20, Dodge.
    • The Player decides to convert some OC into Coin: 200 OC = 2000cp
    • Hagar starts with 300cp + Coin from OC conversion (300cp) = 600cp.
    • Hagar selects to start with a Fire Bolt Spell (575cp), Mystic Leather Spell (773cp) and Lend Health Spell (509 cp)
    • Remaining starting money is given in Coin: 443cp.
    • All downtime is forfeit.
    • The Player does not send in any Between Games Action or participate in any RP as “Gerald” or “Hagar.”
    • The next event, the Player submits an Event Registration form to log their new character.

Finishment

When a character dies and becomes a Spirit while having no Resurrections on their sheet. The character’s Spirit passes through the Curtain and can no longer be resurrected.

When a character is in this position, the Player has two options:

  1. Follow the same rules for Retirement (details above) and create a new character. The new character can be created that same event or the Player may choose to finish the event as a Cast Member (and will receive OC for doing so).
  2. The Player may choose to purchase a level of Spiritual Endurance with a fee and OC. If all requirements are met, then the character returns to game as a Spirit and resurrects normally. The requirements for this are:
  • The character must have not reached their maximum of 5 Resurrections.
  • The character must have (or must purchase or earn) enough Ogre Chips to cover the cost of the skill. Here are the costs based on the character’s SP conversion ratio:
