EAO has purchased land and is putting all of our effort into building it up to be the best place to LARP in Ontario! We will be working on this for however long it takes, but if you are interested in helping us out in doing so, here are a few ways!
We could use support in two ways, labour and money...
Labour
Got time and willingness to get your hands dirty? We could use your help!
We are putting up announcements about Build Days on the site whenever we have them ready. These get posted to our Facebook Groups... FA-TO Facebook Group and ET Facebook Group.
If you have time outside of Build Days to help out, contact the Owner responsible for site building, Doug, directly to discuss when and how you can help.
Money
We are putting out finances toward the building but more can help build faster and better! We've provided many different items you can purchase that will all help make our site the best! An FAQ Is below if you have any further questions, or you can head straight to the store to put your money to good use!
FAQ
Q: Why is EAO holding this fundraiser?
A: In stage 1 of our land-improvement initiatives we have been working hard to physically alter the land itself: clearing fields, making roads, cutting grass/scrub, fixing hazardous areas, etc. We are now at the point where we’re ready to begin stage 2, the construction of priority buildings. Our goal is get the new site operational and up to the standards our players have come to expect to as quickly as possible, and stage 2 is a very important step towards that goal. Unfortunately, this stage cannot be accomplished through hard work alone, it will also require sufficient funds to purchase the necessary materials and equipment to do the job right. While private investment from directors and financing were enough to acquire the land and complete stage 1, some large expenses have arisen that mean we could use help to complete stage 2. If we were to finance this shortfall through event fees alone, it would require a VERY substantial increase in event prices and we obviously don’t want to do that if there is any other option, as we fully understand that not everyone in our community is in a position to financially contribute and this would become a significant barrier to participating in the games that we love. So, we have instead decided to hold a town-building fundraiser as a way for players to voluntarily contribute any amount that they are able, should they so choose, in exchange for some in-game benefits.
Q: Is this fundraiser the only source of funding for the site building?
A: This is not the only source of financing for this stage of our land-improvement, but will be used to supplement what we are able to acquire from other sources which will not be sufficient on their own.
Q: What will the raised money be used for?
A: All money raised will go toward stage 2 site-improvement initiatives (such as the construction of washrooms, a kitchen and priority sleeping), to directly increase the quality of event experiences for our players.
Q: How long will the fundraiser last?
A: While we don’t have a predefined end date, the town-building fundraiser is here for a limited time, for the above purpose only. As soon as stage 2 has been fully funded, the fundraiser will be immediately discontinued. Extra funds beyond this amount will not be collected. This is NOT a permanent option open to players to purchase character advancement.
Q: Isn’t this “Pay to Win”?
A: No, we don’t see it that way. And one of the biggest reasons for that is that one ‘wins’ at LARP by having fun and helping others to have fun, not by acquiring better stats or items for an in-game character. The specific items were selected carefully as ones that were determined not be detrimental to the game or detract from a player’s overall experience and enjoyment, whether they purchase the item or not. This is just one more way we seek to reward players who help contribute towards making the game possible, which is something we have always done through things like OC, including (but not limited to) those who have made financial donations to help us purchase much-needed items in the past.
Q: Why sell these in-game things at all? Can’t you just take donations from those who are interested in helping out?
A: There are very strict legal regulations on what businesses can and cannot do involving accepting money from people, and a big one of these is that businesses cannot accept money for nothing. To ensure no legal issues, we have decided to offer things that we can do for our players.
Q: How can I help out if I’m not able to contribute financially?
A: Don’t worry, we still need lots of help with various aspects of getting the site operational, including helping with physical labour on our site working days. If you have other ideas, suggestions or skills you’d like to contribute, just reach out to a Director to let us know. We are very appreciative to all the assistance being offered from the community to make this possible, regardless of what form it takes.
Q: How do I get to the fundraiser?
A: Many items can be purchased directly through the Townbuilding Fundraiser section of the Endless Adventures site, while others require the player to reach out to an EAO Director to discuss some of the details first. See each individual item for further details.
