Help Build a Home for LARP
We are building a permanent home dedicated to Live-Action Role-Playing games in Ontario! The goal of this is to create an amazing immersive space where we run the best games for our welcoming community. Building something this big takes a lot of work from a lot of people, so we are putting out the plan to see who can pitch in. Here’s the info:

Who we are.
We are Endless Adventures Ontario, the Owners and managers of Fantasy Alive, Dormancy and End Times LARPs. We have been operating games since 2003 through dedication and perseverance to our goal: Make Live-Action Role-Playing the positive impact on people it should be. We do this by creating a place where all can feel welcome, enjoy the challenges (both social and physical) and take home that positive experience to enhance their whole lives.
Some specific steps we take to do this…
● We care about our players. Our players are our friends, whether they have just arrived at their first event, or have been playing for years.
● We actively work as the executive of the games to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our players. Putting in place and enforcing safety policies to developing and maintaining a community of care with everyone who comes to our games.
● We have created a team of trained and knowledgeable people to fall back on for assistance when the executive need assistance with challenging situations.
● The games explore some themes that challenge our players physically, emotionally, mentally, but always within reasonable limits and always ensuring that the players know they can stop anything that pushes them too far.
● Player health comes first. Physical and mental. We always pause game for anyone in need and ensure they are properly cared for before considering continuing the game. And out players understand and appreciate this policy.
● We provide a safe friendly atmosphere for players to join a positive community. Ensuring our staff, executive and players all welcome and help everyone enjoy the games.
● We understand that the costs of the games can be a burden for some. We rely on those who can pay to provide us the ability to give breaks to those who need it. LARP can be a much-needed break for everyone, and we believe money should not be an obstacle to enjoying our games.
Details on the Project
Our project is to take our land in Southern Ontario and build it into the premier destination for LARP games in Ontario. We will setup the necessary facilities such as parking, cabins and other buildings, trails and modular spaces for running a wide variety of LARP encounters, puzzles and combats. The full details of the project are many, many pages of information, so we’ll condense it down for reading here.
Construction
Camping and Buildings
This area we refer to as “Town” and “Cast Camp” to reflect their uses within the games.
Camping space will be set aside in both the Town and Cast Camp area with enough space for many tents.
Town is the area our customers will regularly gather in to socialize as well as to sleep in either camping space or bunk-cabins we will build. This space will also include a larger covered area of shelter as a gathering space.
In addition, we will also build a variety of buildings used for storage and sleeping space for our players. These buildings will be built as time, materials and demand requires, but aiming at three to five constructed at least this year.
Cast Camp is the area our Plot Team and Cast use to store game equipment and prepare the interactions in the game world. This is also the space the Plot and Cast players relax in between occurrences.
Here we will be setting up our shipping container as the storage and supply of materials for running the games. In addition, we will be building cabins for sleeping spaces for our Plot and Cast members. The current plan is to build 2-3 of these by the end of this year.
Parking Lot
We have set aside a large area for our customers to park. This parking lot will be surfaced with gravel to ensure a good surface for cars as well as provide the drainage necessary for the area. We plan to use about ¼ of this space at the start, with the goal to expand to at least half of this space as the need for more parking arises.
Access Road
A single-lane road used as a service road for the Town and Cast Camp areas that already exists on the site. This road will be primarily used by employees to move materials for the game. This road is already present as a dirt road.
Remaining areas used for trails and fields
These spaces will be left largely in their natural state with the exception of maintaining paths and some open fields for use during the games. These spaces will be utilized for encounters during the games in a variety of ways, but never in a way that will be destructive to the natural environment.
Costs of Construction
Gathering Shelters (each): $4,400
Cabins (each): $5,800
Parking Lot Gravel: $6,500
Total (2 Gathering Shelters, 5 cabins, gravel): $ 44,300
Regulatory Requirements and Fees
We have been working with the County and all the necessary departments to ensure compliance and permissions. While this has been a long process, we’re now at the stage where we have the exact road-map to get running our games. The downside to this is that there are still many check-boxes that need to be filled by proper reviews and reports. This process is on-going and we are working with an excellent Planning business to ensure a smooth work process.
At this point in the process, we have these aspects and costs upcoming…
County Fees for processing application: $29,000
Planning Consultant Fees: $22,000
Estimated Official Inspections and Reports: $74,000
Why are we doing this?
The reason we run the games was covered in the “Who we are” section, so the question we’re answering here is, “Why a dedicated site?” We have run our games on rented spaces for 18 years, and while that experience has been reasonably good, there are a great many things that were not ideal. Rental rates are rising, services and facilities are wearing out, availability is becoming more limited, and booking is more difficult. Increased costs, poorer upkeep, less events, and non-exclusive rentals are some of the significant challenges we are facing as we are forced to rent until this site is given proper permission and basic construction complete.
So with those challenges looming and the opportunity presenting itself in the form of investors and this ideal piece of land available, we have jumped on the opportunity to create a place that we are proud to LARP on.
Ways to help
After all this information, do you want to pitch in what you can to help us achieve this dream? There are a few ways you can help contribute to this…
Funding and GoFundMe - https://gofund.me/9ee4455a
The biggest impediment we have to our success is money. Everything we are doing costs money, and in most cases, lets of money. So if you have the ability to contribute some of your wealth to this project, there are a few ways you can do that.
First, we have setup a GoFundMe (link above) to allow for people to contribute directly to us. Use this if you have some spare money that we can use to build something great.
Second, we have a Fundraiser setup for EAO products. Check that out if you are a player of our games for items you can purchase and that money will go toward making this project a reality.
Do you work for a company that wants some exposure doing something positive? We are setting up some corporate sponsorship options for just that purpose! If you or someone you know is interested in this, reach out to us at owners@fantasyalivelrp.com to discuss what is possible.
Lastly, we are open to options for those who have ideas about investing in this project. Reach out to us at owners@fantasyalivelrp.com to discuss how to best put your resources to work!
Hard Work
All of the items in this plan will need hard work to get done. So if you have the ability to roll up your sleeves and pitch in with some work on this, reach out to us at owners@fantasyalivelrp.com to let us know. We’ll also post on our Facebook Groups so keep an eye out there for notices. (FA-TO Facebook Group and ET Facebook Group.)
We’re looking for people to help with construction, revamp our websites, assist with advertising, writing and researching grants, and so much more. If you have the time and the ability to assist, we’d love to have you help us make this happen.
Spread the word!
Share our story. Share a link. Talk to your friends and relatives about what’s going on here. Any information you can spread about what we’re doing just helps us find the right people to take our work and make a concrete result. We can use the help, and just letting people know about what we’re doing could make all the difference in getting this plan complete.
